Vlada Urošević  

Vlada Urošević is an academician, poet, prose writer, critic, essayist, anthologist, and translator. He spent a significant part of his life as a professor at the "Blazhe Koneski" Faculty of Philology, within the Department of General and Comparative Literature.

Beginning with Another City (1959), he has published 11 poetry collections. His prose oeuvre consists of short story collections, novels, books of essays and travelogues, criticism, and essay writing. He has also compiled a large number of anthologies.

He has translated poetry into Macedonian by Baudelaire, Rimbaud, Apollinaire, Éluard, Breton, Michaux, and Prévert. For his literary and translation work, he was named first a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters, and later an Officer of the same Order by the Government of the French Republic.

Uroshevikj’s books have been translated into English, Bulgarian, German, Danish, Italian, Polish, Russian, Slovenian, Serbian, French, Croatian, and Spanish.

He is the recipient of almost all the highest state awards and was crowned with the Golden Wreath at the Struga Poetry Evenings festival in 2023.

A Tower by the Sea is one of Vlada Uroshevikj’s most mature and most mystically constructed collections. It brings together almost all of his enduring preoccupations: myth, dreams, symbols, metaphysics, the sea, and the mirror of language. The collection is structured as a series of visions, with each poem serving as a stone in the mosaic of a vast allegorical construction—the tower as a place of contemplation, waiting, and creation.

The poems in this collection have not previously been published in any of Vlada Uroshevikj’s books. The collection contains 76 poems, divided into five thematic cycles.
