Petar Andonovski

Petar Andonovski graduated from the Department of General and Comparative Literature in Skopje. He has published one poetry collection, Mental Space (2008), and five novels: Eyes the Color of Shoes (2013), The Body One Must Live In (2015), Fear of Barbarians (2018), The Summer Without You (2020), and I Won’t Tell (2023). He has won several awards, including the Novel of the Year for The Body One Must Live In (2015), the European Union Prize for Literature for Fear of Barbarians (2020), the Author of the Year Award at the Skopje Book Fair (2020), and the PEN Translates Award for The Summer Without You (2022).

What makes a family a family? Are there boundaries of love between parents and children that must not be crossed? And how much saying and not saying is needed for a healthy partnership? It is an exciting story about four parents, one child, and many unspoken thoughts and emotions.

Through the narrative in the recognizable style of Petar Andonovski, the painful wounds of the things we consider valuable are opened as sharply as with a scalpel. With I Won’t Tell Petar reopens particularly important questions that we all need to think about and answer. I Won’t Tell is among the first or, perhaps, the first novel in the Balkans that deals with the topic of queer parenthood.
