Nenad Joldeski

Nenad Joldeski is a contemporary Macedonian writer. He holds a degree from the Faculty of Economics and an MA from the Department of General and Comparative Literature at the Faculty of Philology.

His first book, Silence of Enhalon (Templum, 2009), is a collection of short stories written in the Struga dialect and sociolect. It received the Novite Award for best debut work in Templum’s competition. In 2012 he published Each with Their Own Lake (Templum), a short-story collection for which he received the 2016 European Union Prize for Literature; the book has been translated into several languages. He is also the author of the short novel Swimming Upstream (Ili-Ili, 2018) and the poetry collection The Way We Fall (Begemot, 2026). As a part of the Vezdenski artistic group, he adapted scripts for amateur theatre productions, including Daniil Kharms’s Old Woman and Dimitrie Duracovski’s Insomnia.

А book that transforms disintegration into language. It is a book about a world that burns, freezes, disappears, and is born again. Its endings and transformations form the coordinates of a meticulously constructed poetic universe. The collection does not romanticize collapse; on the contrary, it reads it as the fundamental condition of the contemporary world, in which love remains the only site of resistance.
