THE COMPETITION FOR THE BEST TRANSLATION
AWARD "DRAGI" 2024 IS OPEN NOW
The award for the best translation to the Macedonian language "Dragi" was established to evaluate translation production in Macedonia, as well as to highlight the value and importance of translation for our cultural context.
Books published between July 1, 2023 and June 30, 2024 can participate.
Published books must be translated from the original language, and one may compete with works translated from "living" and classical languages (Arabic, Ancient Greek, Sanskrit and Latin).
The award is given for the translation of works of all literary and artistic types: prose, poetry and drama.
Publishing houses, a non-governmental organizations and translators have the right to nominate books for the award.
Each publishing house or non-governmental organization has the right to nominate a maximum of five books, and each translator has the right to nominate a maximum of two books.
The competition is open until July 1, 2024.
Nominated books can be published in paper form or as electronic editions and must have a CIP code from the National and University Library "St. Kliment Ohridski" - Skopje.
The books published in paper form should be submitted in four copies to the address of the publishing house "Antolog" ("Gjorgji Pulevski" 29, lok. 1), and the electronic editions in electronic form to the email redakcija@antolog.mk. redakcija@antolog.mk.
Submitted translations will be evaluated by a three-member committee composed of translators, writers or literary critics.
The award consists of a diploma and a "Dragi" statuette.
This year's novelty is that for the first time the prize will also include a monetary part, which will amount to a gross amount of 30,000 denars.
This year's edition of the "Dragi" award was realized by the publishing house "Antolog" with the support of the Ministry of Culture and in cooperation with the Faculty of Philology "Blaže Koneski" - Skopje.
The "Dragi" award for the best literary translation into the Macedonian language in 2023 was won by Zlatko Panzov for the translation from Hungarian of the novel "Captivity" by György Spiró, published by the publishing house Artkonekt. The commission for awarding the award, consisting of: Jana Mihajlovska, Lidija Kapuševska-Drakulevska and Milan Damjanovski, decided to award a special recognition-diploma for continuing the translation tradition and creative spirit of Dragi Mihajlovski to Nikola Gjelinčeski for his translation from Spanish to "Presongs in Post-Hispanic and Other Poems" by Jorge Enrique Adoum, published by Aleph Publications. The "Dragi" international award for the most significant translation of a Macedonian author into a foreign language for 2023 was awarded to the translator Alexandra Ioanidou for the translation of the book "My Husband" by Rumena Bužarovska into Greek. The prize for the best translation into the Macedonian language "Dragi" was established in 2022, and the first honorary award was given to Dragi Mihajlovski (1951-2022), a Macedonian writer, translator, essayist and university professor. Apart from his prose works, Mihajlovski left a lasting mark on Macedonian culture with the translations of works by Shakespeare, Milton, Shelley, Keats, Blake, Eliot, Milton, etc. He also published several studies and essays in the field of translation theory, and with his views on translation, he influenced the students of the Faculty of Philology "Blaže Koneski" in Skopje, where he was a professor.
