Tino Schlench is a lecturer, freelance journalist/blogger, Traduki collaborator and the curator of the literature program at Vienna’s „Kultursommer" – a yearly, six-week festival in the summer happening in the Austrian capital..
He was born in Prenzlau, Germany. He studied German literature and cultural studies in Leipzig, Berlin and Vienna. While studying, he was an intern at magazines and publishing houses, allowing him to start writing literary reviews. In 2018, as a research assistant in the field of contemporary history at the University of Vienna – he founded the blog “Literaturpalast” which focuses on literature from Eastern Europe. In 2020, the blog was expanded to include a podcast, which is produced in cooperation with the network Traduki (S. Fischer Foundation). Due to his knowledge in the field of Eastern European literature, Tino рegularly hosts readings and events in Austria and Germanywith local authors.
His blog along with the blоg’s Instagram account „Literaturpalast" account which focus on the literatures of Eastern Europe has over 12 000 followers. For the work on his blog he was awarded with the best Bookblog Award at the Frankfurt Book Fair in 2021 and the Börsenblatt Young Excellence Award 2021. He started moderating various kinds of events in Austria and collaborated with a number of German-language publishers to provide expert consultancy regarding new literary voices from Eastern and Southeastern European countries.
He is a jury member for two important literary prizes: Exilliteraturpreise, for authors whose first language is not German, and Preis der Hotlist for the best book by an independent publisher, awarded at the Frankfurt Book Fair.
As he has met some Macedonian writers but wants to get to know the current literary scene of the country profoundly.
