SERBIA
Igor Marojević (1968) is a contemporary Serbian writer and translator, a member of the Serbian and Catalan PEN center and one of the founders of the Serbian Literary Society. He is the author of nine novels, two novellas, and four collections of short stories.
He studied Serbo-Croatian language and Yugoslav literature at the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade. He attended doctoral studies in World Literature at the Autonoma University in Barcelona.
His prose deals with threatened minorities, i.e. individuals who are faced with an aggressive society. His works and short stories have been translated into seventeen languages. He published the “Belgrade Penta Book”: and he is also the author of the “Ethnofiction” pentalogy of which four books have been published so far.
His work “Nomads” originally written in Spanish, has a theater performance in Spain in the production of the "Barcelona Theater Institute" and in the Belgrade Drama Theater.
"Remnants of the World" is the most awarded novel in Serbian literature of the 21st century.
He was also awarded with:
- The "Meša Selimović" Award for the best work in the Serbian language for 2020 for the novel "Remnants of the World",
- The “Andrić” Award for the best short story in the Serbian language for the short story "Painting",
- The award of the city of Belgrade "Despot Stefan Lazarević" for the novel "Remnants of the world",
- The "Golden sunflower" Аward for the book "Border states",
- The "Golden Beočug" Аward for lasting contribution to the culture of the city of Belgrade,
- The Hungarian-Serbian award “Károly Szirmai”
- The "Borislav Pekić" Award for the novel "Heat",
- The "Tronoški Rodoslov" Award for the novel "Remnants of the World",
- The "Stevan Pešić" Award for the novel "Heat",
- The "Desimir Tošić" Award for the collection of short stories "Through the head".
He lives on the road between Belgrade and Barcelona. He translates prose from Spanish and Catalan.
