Eliza at eleven years old
Translation: Aleksandra Kaitozis
BASED ON A TRUE STORY, THE NOVEL REPRESENTS A KIND OF "X-RAY" OF MODERN SOCIETY.
In a village near Bucharest, there is real hysteria when the residents find out that Eliza (a girl of 11 years old) has syphilis. In the course of the disclosure of other cases of syphilis, the girl is accused of infecting, no less, the entire village. Gradually, the media, authorities, parents and ordinary citizens demand that Eliza be punished, making her the main social enemy. Frowning and self-possessed, Eliza shows her strong character. In Italy, the book is compared to "The Plague" by Albert Camus.
