Malterego
Translation: Sašo Hristovski

The young and talented Leo is faced with the choice of violence. Writing a sort of madman's diary – in which an imaginary avenger, his (M)alterego, brutally administers justice – is how Leo chooses not to choose violence, until the day the corpse from his story appears on the news.

A hated TV host is found dead just a day after an 'awkward' TV interview with Leo - fallen from a great height in a place where there are no buildings. Where did she get here? Surely she didn't fall from the sky? Who killed her? Does it have anything to do with Leo or Malterego?

When the figure responsible for Leo's dark dreams and past trauma reappears, a whirlwind of events blurs the boundaries between imagination and reality, morality and sinking.

Intelligent and humorous, and at times dark and sharp, the novel presents life in its full form, but also in the inevitable distortion of the language of today's young, educated and desperate world, which brings it to a deeper literary truth.

Selić dives to an astonishing level into the dark abyss of human nature. You will feel the sharpness of the swallowed hook deep in your stomach.

"Super urban prose that plays with elements from various popular genres. A novel full of violence that shows disdain for violence and a nostalgic desire for rock culture, which as a new wave was based on love and understanding", David Albahari explains "Malterego".
