The jury committee for the best literary translation award “Dragi” held their first selective meeting on August 20th 2024 (Tuesday) in the premises of the publishing house “Antolog”, and decided that the first round of works that continue to compete for the best literary translation award “Dragi” contains 22 works from 14 publishing houses, translated by 23 different translators, from 11 different languages to Macedonian language. The works that have been selected are the following (alphabetically arranged, by the first letter of the name of the translators):

The jury committee consists of Jana Mihajlovska PhD (librarian and president of the Library Association of Macedonia; representative of the family of Dragi Mihajlovski), Zorica Nikolovska, PhD (full professor at the Department of German Language and Literature and translator; representative proposed by the Faculty of Philology "Blaže Koneski") and Vladimir Jankovski (writer and translator, representative proposed by the publishing house "Antolog") emphasized that the initial selection of 43 titles is extremely large, both in terms of the heterogeneity of the authors and their translation efforts, as well as in the approach to the translation. The members gave a positive view regarding the editing of the works themselves from a technical and literary aspect, and also regarding the proofreading. The selection of literary works entering the next round was difficult, not only because of the different style and scope of the works, but also because it is difficult to make a qualitative evaluation of different literary genres. At the meeting, a proposal was also made to consider for future awards to introduce a special appreciation of separate literary genres and types.
This year's edition of the "Dragi" award was realized by the publishing house "Antolog" with the support of the Ministry of Culture and in cooperation with the Faculty of Philology "Blaže Koneski" - Skopje. The prize consists of a plaque and a "Dragi" statuette, as well as a cash portion that will come to a gross amount of 30,000 denars. 43 works by 40 translators, published by 18 publishing houses or individuals, were initially nominated for the "Dragi" award, for translations made from 18 different languages and from all genre categories – novels, short stories, children's books, poetry, drama.
The prize for the best translation into the Macedonian language "Dragi" was established in 2022, and the first honorary award was given to Dragi Mihajlovski (1951-2022), a Macedonian writer, translator, essayist and university professor. Apart from his prose works, Mihajlovski left a lasting mark on Macedonian culture with the translations of works by Shakespeare, Milton, Shelley, Keats, Blake, Eliot, Milton, etc. He also published several studies and essays in the field of translation theory, and with his views on translation, he influenced the students of the Faculty of Philology "Blaže Koneski" in Skopje, where he was a professor.
